Today I was delighted to see Audrey Hepburn gracing the front of the Google Search page. She is being honored on what would have been her 85th birthday. The elegant icon has always been an inspiration of mine. I know that this is not unique of me, which is fine because I believe she should be idolized by all young women who desire the most from life. Hepburn had an extraordinary life story, and should be recognized more for the challenges she rose above in her childhood and her humanitarian efforts in her later life than for her trademark quotes, “I believe that happy girls are the prettiest girls.” Many young women recognize her for these quotes and for her timeless beauty, but it is so important to also recognize strong women for their substance and their contributions to this world.
Besides being a talented actress and dancer, Hepburn was recognized internationally for her humanitarian work. She is even mentioned about by the UNICEF Executive Director. “She was an inspiration. She brought an enormous world attention to children. She raised the profile of the challenges they face.”
Hepburn, for me, shows that more important than fading beauty is one’s character and strength of heart.
